3. Ola Hallsteinson (above) (1614-ca. 90) stands in the tax rolls after his father, and after the reduction in 1645 farmed 2 lp. butter, 2 hides, 1 ramskin, 1 calfskin. Now he began to buy up all the several small "bondeparts" in the farm. In 1651 he bought 15 mrk. butter, 2ó pd. salt from Ola Hollekim and equally much from Arne Måkestad and Torstein Nesheim, 10 mrk. butter, 1 pd. 6 mrk. salt from Åmund Aga, 5 mrk. butter, 20 mrk. salt from Svein Åse, and 7ó mrk. butter, 1 pd. salt from Gjertrud Olsdtr. In 1653 he bought some merker butter that Elling Hakestad had owned, but forfeited to his wife, since for 5 years he had not paid odel tax. In 1656 he bought 1 pd. 6 mrk. butter from Arne Måkestad. He swapped 1 sp. butter, 1 goatskin that he owned in Kvalnes to Elling Skeie and Lars Folkedal for similar small parts in N. Børve. In 1657 he owned 1 lp. 8 mrk. butter, 1 pd. salt in his farm. He was lagrettemann in 1663-64. We find him in the tax roll for 1687, but not in the tithing record for 1692, so he must have died between these years.

His youngest brother was assigned the other half, 3 sp. butter, at the probate after their father in 1708 and began farming that. In 1711 Sjur demanded that he should accept redemption money and relinguish the land, and the court agreed. The following year, Hallstein sued Sjur for non-payment. 220 4. Per Johannesson Aga Farm 4 (ca. 1590-1659) was married to Filippus' oldest daughter. He inherited a lot of land from his father, including the pawned estate in Hovland, and got a lot with his wife, so he became a rich and powerful man. He had many court cases in his time and was inclined to complain over the injustices he had suffered, but he did not shrink from helping himself when things did not go the way he wanted otherwise. In 1626 he had to pay a 6 rdlr. fine for having torn down another man's boathouse. Right enough, it had stood on his land, but futen still said he had to behave himself according to the law. He was ordered to rebuild the structure to the same condition. Per was church ombudsmann 1627-30 and lensmann 1633-35. The thing assembly commended him for having been a fair and honest lensmann and thanked him for "Christian and loving rapport." He had court suits with both Mr. Henrik Miltzow at Voss and Rector de Fine in Bergen about landed property and privileges, and he won those. About his fight with futen, see Vol. I, p. 338. Probate after him was held at Hovland 9 Nov. 1660. From the probate record it appears that he owned Hovland, further 2ó lp. butter in Ø. Børve, and in addition he owned parts in Egdetveit, Selje, Nesheim at Voss, Trappetun, Vasstun, N.
