- Celebrate Golden Wedding
Is What F.W. John and Wife Did Last Saturday.
F.W. John, the genial and popular postmaster of Gillett, and his wife celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding at their home, in the west part of the village, last Saturday. Those present to enjoy the festivities of the day were all their children and grand-children and a few old time friends whom they had known for years.
Mr. and Mrs. John have been residents of Gillett for more than forty years and possibly no couple of the county have a wider acquantance than they have. Mr. John is in his 76th year. He was a native of Prussia. He served his adopted country through the war of the Rebellion. Mrs. John’s maiden name was Johanna Diedrich. She was born in Brunswick. They were married in Milwaukee in 1852. They have five children living, fifteen grand-children and one great grand-child. They received numerous congratulations by mail and telegram and were the recipients of many substantial and beautiful gifts from relatives and friends both at home and abroad, a few of which came from far off Germany.
GOLDEN WEDDING
Postmaster John and wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sat. Nov. 28, 1902 at the old homestead in the west part of the village by inviting to their home for the day all the children and grandchildren and a few intimate friends. Mr. and Mrs. John a fine old German couple are Wisconsin pioneers having lived in Gillett more than 40 years. Mr. John a native of Prussia is in his 75th year, is still vigorous and hearty and did service for the country of his adoption throughout the war of the rebellion. Mrs. John whose maiden name is Johanna Diedrich was born in Brunswick is in her 73rd year is sprightly, kindly, and loveable. They have five living children, fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They received numerous congratulations both by mail and telegram and were recipients of many substantial and beautiful presents from relatives and friends both at home and abroad, a few of which came from far as Germany. Both Grandpa and Grandma John as everyone calls them are charitable, generous to a fault everybody knows them everybody likes them and The Times joins everybody in wishing them many years yet of health, peace, prosperity and contentment.
