Will | Marshall County, West Virginia: Record of Wills, Bk 2, pg 60: In the name of God Amen I William Buchanan of the County of Ohio and late of the County of Mononghalia being in a low state of health and calling to mind that it is appointed by God for all men to die and I am in perfect mind at present I do make this my last will & testament and first of all I do commit my spirit to God who gave it and my body to be decently buried in the earth not doubting it to raised again by the power of Almighty God at the general resurrection and now touching all my worldly estate of good lands and chattles debts to me due and to become due I do order to be collected and all my goods to be put to public sale according to law and first I bequeath to my daughter Geen Morgin twenty dollars ten of it to be paid when my personal estate is collected by my Executors the other ten to be paid when my land in Mononghalia is sold and the money collected by my Executors, secondly I do bequeath unto my daughter Marget Strayer five sheep some household furniture pot rack pot hooks and tea kettle one coffee mill and one flax Hatchel some household pewter also twenty dollars to be paid in to her own hand when collected. I also bequeath to my son in law John Strayer one hundred acres of land where John Strair now lives and also I bequeath unto them one eighth part of all my other property both real and personal to be paid when collected and thirdly I bequeath unto my daughter Mary Graham one eight part to be paid when collected by my Executors likewise to my daughter Anibel Yoho one eight part when collected by my Executors like wise to my daughter Rebecca Burton one eight part when collected by my Executors like wise one eight part to my daughter Eloner Rine one eight part when collected likewise to my son William Buchanan. One eight part when collected by my Executors likewise to my son James Buchanan one eight part when collected by my Executors likewise to my son Ebenezer one eight part with the addition of twenty dollars to be paid in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen likewise to my granddaughter Mary Brattan twenty dollars to be paid in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen. I likewise order my Executors to put my personal property to public sale and in eighteen months after my deceased all costs arising on the same to be paid to the Heirs according to my will and as for my plantation on Monongahala I order to be put to public auction for four years after the year 1814 to the highest bidder with privilege of clearing ten acres of new land I order the said plantation to be put to public sale to the highest bidder so that the heirs may have their divide of the same, I order my Executors to collect and empower them to collect all my personal property in one year and six months and pay the moneys arising therefrom to be paid to the heirs according as above mentioned and I do appoint and constitute and empower John Taylor & John Straier both of Ohio County Virginia and do empower one of them and each of them to execute the above will and testament according to law, signed sealed and published by the above named William Buchan(an) to be his last will and testament in presence of us who at his request and in his presence had hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the same given under my hand and seal this twenty first day of January 1813.
