Notes |
- Married on the Train.
A romantic wedding took place on the train between Gillett and Wabeno Saturday August 28. The contracting parties in this happy event were Mr. Victor John, the genial station agent at Wabeno, and Miss Gertie Cain of Oconto. The bride, accompanied by justice Newald of Gillett, took the 1:30 train from the latter place and when near the county line between Oconto and Forest counties, they were met by the groom and his party who had come to meet them on a handcar, as it was necessary to have the nuptial knot tied on Oconto county territory. The train was stopped and Justice Newald lost no time in declaring the lovers man and wife. Miss May Lecourt. who accompanied the groom from Wabeno was bridesmaid and Mike Arsnean was best man. The event was celebrated by a long continuous blast of locomotive whistle and the joyous ringing of the bell. The newly married couple are well known in Oconto. [7]
