John Roote - his father was dead, he lived with an uncle, a brother of his father and was adopted. His uncle was a man of wealth advanced in years a zealous opponent of popery and said to be one of the nobility. He insisted that John should go into Cromwell's army to fight Charles I. He had an aversion to war joined a party of Puritans and came to this country about 1640 settling at Farmington, Conn. His brother, Thomas came to America in 1637 and settled at Hartford, Conn.
