Will | Mary Bentley’s Will In the name of god amen I Mary Bentley of the township of Newlin and County of Chester and province of Pensylvania Widdow being very sick and weak an body but perfect mid & memory thanks be given unto god therefore calling unto mind the mortality of m body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die I do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I five and recommend my soul into the hands of almighty god that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by themighty power of god and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased almighty god to bless me with in this life I five and dispose of the same in the following manner and form that is to say in the first place my will and order is that all my just debts and funeral charges shall be paid and satisfied Imprimis I give and bequeath unto the Reverend Mr. Owen Thomas Minister of the baptist church in the forks of Brandywine the sum of five pounds currant money of Pensilvania to be raised and levied out of my Estate by my well beloved sons Jeffery Bently and John Bently whom I do hereby constitute and appoint sole executors of this my last will and testament Item I give unto my said executors Jeffrey Bentley and John Bentley to each of them the sum of one English Crown or the value in Pensilvania money Item I give to my son in law Thomas Bayley & Sarah his wife each of them one English Crown or the value therof in Pensilvania money Item I give to my son in law Robert Chalfant the sum of one English Crown or the value thereof in Pensilvania money Item I give and bequeath all and singular my goods chattels bonds cash bills notes and effects whatsoever in any ways belonging to me or in my possession or name belonging to be to be equally divided between my grand children that is to say the children of Jeffery Bentley, John Bentley, and my two daughters Ann Chalfant, and Sara Bayley except the aforenamed and bequeathed sums and also thirty nine pounds which my son in law Robert Chalfant justly owed me and hath kept from me for many years which said sum of money shall be taken out of my whole estate and be equally divided between the children of my two sons Jeffery Bentley John Bentley and my daughter Sarahs wife of Thomas Bayley and then afterwards my daughter Ann Chalfant deceas’d her children then shall come in for an equal share with my other grand children of all other things whatsoever and my will and mind is and I do hereby order my two sons Jefferey Bently and John Bentley my said Executors that they shall as soon as conveniently they can after my decease get my estate settled and divided amongst any said grand children according to my orders herein given and then each childs share to be forthwith delivered into the hands of each child parent to be by them taken care of for their children and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments wills legacies bequeaths and executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this & no other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty second day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine. 22 Mar 1759 Mary her M mark Bentley [seal] Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Mary Bentley as her last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers Saml worth Wm Sorsby Chester, April 26th, 1760 Then personally appeared Samuel Worth and on his solemn affirmation according to law did solemnyly sincerely an truly delcare and saffirm that he was personally present and did see and hear Mary Bently the testatix within named sign seal publish pronounce and declare the within writing to be her last will & testament and that at the doing thereof she was of asound and well dsiposing mind and memory to the best of his understanding and also that his name therunto subscribed as a witness was of his own proper hand writing. Graham DReg Be it remembered that onthe twenty sixth day of April Anno Dome 1760 the last will and testament of Mary Bentley deceased was proved in due form of law and letters testamentory were granted to Jeffery Bentley and John Bentley sole executors therein named who were solemnly sworn well and truly to administer and bring in an inventory of the deceased estate into the registers office at Chester on or before the twnety seventh day of May next and to render a true and just account of their admininstration in a year or when legally required given under the seal of said office.
