Notes |
- Chronology & Notes:
• 17 April 1675 - The name John Ancram appears on a list of bills left with Alex. Donniphan (Westmoreland County, Virginia Deeds, Patents, Accounts, Depositions, etc. 1665-1677, page 344).
Evidence:
Ann Spencer’s will names two sons from a husband whose surname was Ancram, whom she married before Richard Chapman. This John Ancram is the only Ancram known to be living in Westmoreland County, Virginia at that time. Thus it seems highly likely that he was Ann’s husband. However, according to Nell Nugent1 a Charles Ancram was transported to Accomack County, Virginia in 1664. There is no further record of him and, while it seems unlikely, one cannot completely rule out the possibility that he was Ann’s husband before she married Richard Chapman.
